About the event
Giuseppe Verdi - composer of dozens of operas including such hits as La Traviata , Aida , Rigoletto and Il Trovatore - almost completely did not try his hand at composing outside of opera. However, the death of the outstanding Italian poet Alessandro Manzoni, privately a friend of Verdi, moved the composer so much that he decided to honor his memory by writing Messa da Requiem (this is the full title). Verdi's work, although it grew out of Christian ideas and symbols, is not a typical funeral mass in the liturgical sense. The piece was created spontaneously, it is an expression of sadness and grief after the death of a friend, a sadness so great that Verdi was unable to attend the poet's funeral. To this moving feeling, Requiem owes its intense power of influence on the listener, and the sincerity of emotions that accompanied the composer during the creation can still be heard in every bar played by the orchestra and in every note sung. We propose that you listen to this beautiful piece on November 3, 2024 - performed by soloists, choir and orchestra of the Grand Theatre in Łódź under the baton of Rafał Janiak. And since this date is so close to All Saints' Day, which is a time of reflection and contemplation on the transience and meaning of life, let us remember - like Master Verdi himself - all our friends and loved ones who are no longer with us. Brahms considered Verdi's composition a work of genius, so it is worth listening and reflecting for a moment. We invite you!
