About the event
Dramatic symphony/ballet. Premiere as part of the XXVII Łódź Ballet Meetings. Production of the Paris National Opera. The work is performed in the original French language version.
In choreographing Romeo and Juliet (2007), Sasha Waltz turned to one of the most moving love stories in world literature. The story of the star-crossed lovers, whose families are enemies and whose death brings understanding and reconciliation, is one of Shakespeare's most famous works. This dark tragedy inspired Hector Berlioz to compose a dramatic symphony Romeo and Juliet for three soloists, two large choirs and an orchestra. During the world premiere in 2007, stars Aurélie Dupont and Hervé Moreau danced the lovers who found each other only after death. In the autumn of 2012, Romeo and Juliet was included in the repertoire of La Scala in Milan.
In April 2015 , Romeo and Juliet premiered in Berlin as a co-production between Deutsche Oper Berlin, La Scala in Milan and Sasha Waltz & Guests. There, the choreography was first performed by dancers from the Sasha Waltz & Guests ensemble.
