About the event
The work is performed in the original Italian language version.
"La Traviata" with a libretto by Francesco Piave based on the novel "La Dame de Camellias" by Alexandre Dumas was not well received during its world premiere at the Venetian La Fenice theatre in 1853. The bourgeois audience could not accept that the opera was set in the present day and that the main character was a courtesan! History has shown that they were wrong: "La Traviata" is one of the most frequently performed operas today. By composing "La Traviata", Verdi gave opera literature a register of opera hits: Brindisi, E'strano, Di Provenza, Addio del passato, Gran Dio ... And the actresses in the title role had unlimited possibilities for vocal and acting performances. This work is an opera classic and every opera theatre should have it in its repertoire, because unlike the world premiere audience, current viewers love the story of Violetta and Alfredo and Verdi's music. The Łódź audience in particular holds this work by Verdi in high regard and is in love with the story. Currently, the Grand Theatre in Łódź does not have this operatic hit in its repertoire, the last performance was played in 2016. As part of supplementing our Theatre's repertoire, we are planning the premiere of "La Traviata" on February 9, 2024. This will be the fifth production of this title in our Theatre, each of the previous ones was received enthusiastically by not only the Łódź audience. On stage we will see soloists, choir, ballet and orchestra of the Grand Theatre in Łódź. Pia Partum will direct.
